Déçu que ce ne soit pas le cas et qu'il ne puisse donc pas demander une rançon, il décide tout de même de la vendre bien que sa beauté ne soit pas suffisante pour qu'il en obtienne un bon prix. Elle est alors vendue aux Hua où elle fut rebaptisée Hong et découvre le véritable travail de servante. Là, elle se lie avec Shi Zu, la fille des Hua, qui décide que Hong la remplacera quand elle doit jouer du qin. Un jour, alors qu'elle est en train de jouer de l'instrument, un homme vient jusque devant la pièce et demanda à la voir, chose qu'elle refuse bien évidement. A la fin de la journée, quand les deux jeunes filles sont sur le chemin du retour, elles sont arrêtée par un convoi envoyé par ce même homme. Il reviendra ensuite à plusieurs reprises pour l'entendre jouer...
