L’histoire nous invite dans un univers post apocalyptique où deux royaumes (les humains et les démons) en guerre depuis plusieurs années viennent tout juste de conclure l’arrêt des combats.Ainsi nous suivons Maô, un dangereux démon machiavélique (et sanguinaire) s’alliant à son pire ennemi,Yûsha, un épéiste hors pair afin d’échapper à leur condamnation. Alors que tout les opposes, ils comprennent rapidement qu’ils doivent mettre leurs différents de côté pour survivre dans un monde qui veut les voir morts et surtout découvrir pourquoi leur tête est mise à prix.

Le Seigneur Démon de la Tyrannie, Arnos, a ravagé les mondes des humains, des esprits et celui des Dieux. Mais, fatigué de cette guerre sans fin et rêvant d'un monde en paix, il décide de se réincarner. Malheureusement, deux mille ans plus tard, ses descendants sont affaiblis par les années de paix et la magie s'est atrophiée.Arnos s'inscrit alors à l'Académie du Seigneur Démon dédiée à la réincarnation du Seigneur Démon, mais l'académie ne reconnaît pas sa force et le classifie d'"Incompatible".
