Ao Ashi raconte l'histoire du jeune Ashito Aoi en troisième année au collège de la ville d'Ehime et de sa rencontre avec l'entraîneur de football Tatsuya Fukuda . Amis depuis tout petits, Iku et Keita ont toujours tout fait ensemble, y compris leurs débuts au base-ball. Keita, plus doué, est promu à jouer dans la catégorie pro, bien qu'il ne désire que jouer avec son ami. Mais un jour où Iku est sur le point de se faire renverser par un camion, Keita lui sauve la vie en échange de sa capacité à jouer au base-ball. Même s'il a survécu, Iku n'arrive pas à se remettre de la tragédie qui a coûté à son meilleur ami ce qu'il aimait le plus. Ne pouvant se le pardonner, il ne peut plus rester auprès de Keita. Mais ce dernier ne compte pas perde sa raison de vivre, et pour cela, il compte bien montrer à Iku la proximité qu'il tient à entretenir avec lui.
