Chitose never listens to what people say, he always hears something slightly different from what they actually said. Mostly his results are just frustrating, but when his friends, Yakushima and Haneda, get injured and punished because of his inattention, Chitose knows he has to do something. But when he decides to try mind reading, his results are unexpected to say the least.

Pour ne pas être en retard à sa céremonie d'entrée dans sa nouvelle école, Arare se voit dans l'obligation de couper à travers un cimetière pour aller plus vite.Seulement voilà qu'elle se heurte à une femme en kimono qui la prend pour une élève transférée à l'Académie pour fille Mononoke, une école qui abrite des créatures de toutes sortes, avec différents pouvoirs. Arare se retrouve donc bien malgré elle prisonnière de cette situation et devra jouer le jeu pour qu'on ne découvre pas qu'elle est une simple humaine.
