The year is 2XXX AD, and basketball has become the most popular sport in the universe. However, the Intergalactic League–-the pinnacle of professional basketball–- is completely dominated by extraterrestrials. Widely renowned as the best of basketball is an extraterrestrial named Gyuma, despite the fact that he is merely 19-years-old. Into this arena steps Yoshimune, an old man who believes that it`s humans who should be number one in basketball. His plan is to collect the best team of pure humans there is, and attempt to win the Intergalactic League. Yoshimune puts out a call for the best human players, and a 14-year-old named Hideyoshi answers the call.

L'histoire tourne autour de trois adolescents désireux de jouer au basket-ball. Nomiya, qui a abandonné l'école secondaire, n'a pas d'avenir dans sa vie. Englouti par la culpabilité d'avoir paralysé une jeune fille dans un accident de la route où il l'a invitée à faire du vélo, il se retrouve dans une situation très difficile. Togawa, un ancien sprinter talentueux qui s'efforçait autrefois de devenir le meilleur au Japon, mais qui met maintenant tout son talent dans le basket-ball en fauteuil roulant, a du mal à gérer le désintérêt et la psyché de ses propres coéquipiers. Takahashi, autrefois un chef d'équipe populaire et arrogant, un étudiant d'honneur, une élite autoproclamée, se trouve maintenant incapable de se déplacer de la poitrine vers le bas.Real traite également de la réalité des handicaps physiques, et l'infériorité psychologique que les personnages lutte contre. Les personnages franchissent peu à peu leurs propres barrières psychologiques et remportent un prix d'excellence pour le manga au Japan Media Arts Festival en 2001.

Growing up in the late 16th century Sengoku era Japan, Shinmen Takezo is shunned by the local villagers as a devil child due to his wild and violent nature. Running away from home with a fellow boy at age 17, Takezo joins the Toyotomi army to fight the Tokugawa clan at the Battle of Sekigahara. However, the Tokugawa win a crushing victory, leading to nearly three hundred years of Shogunate rule. Takezo and his friend manage to survive the battle and afterwards swear to do great things with their lives. However, after their paths separate, Takezo becomes a wanted criminal and must change his name and his nature in order to escape an ignoble death.Note: Won the 24th Kodansha Manga Award in the general category in 2000. Won the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2002 and was nominated for the 2003 Eisner Award in the Best Writer/Artist category.
The "true" final chapter of Vagabond by Takehiko Inoue, which was shown in The LAST Manga Exhibition that took place in Ueno Royal Museum in 2008 as well as The LAST Manga Exhibition Complete Catalogue; a printed catalogue that included all the artworks showcased in the exhibition, however due to the limited number of copies, only a very small number of fans were able to get their hands on it.
