As is the case with much of Tezuka’s work, the main plot of Nextworld deals with Earth in the Atomic Age. Tensions rise as political conflicts escalate, and it seems that a third World War is inevitable. A strange mix of scientists, politicians, and young adventurers may be Earth’s last, best hope against corrupt government officials, armed forces, robots, and secret societies. Meanwhile, the boy detective Kenichi, the young Rock Holmes, Shunsaku Ban (Mustachio) and others discover the Fumoon, a race of tiny, telekinetic humanoids who evolved in Australia, and have their own plans for dealing with the impending apocalypse.

Shichiro Oshima wakes up from the artificial hibernation 100 years in the future, sleeping though the wrath of nuclear war. He wakes up to find Japan to be a primeval jungle, with little to no remnants of Earth's past. After being rescued, Shichiro learns that the Earth is being under attack from alien invaders from all reaches of the universe. Shichiro becomes a member of the Earth Defense Force with the codename Number 7 to fight for the liberation of Earth.

A Tezuka One-Shot that was included in the Complete Works release of Apollo's Song but wasn't included when Apollo's Song got an official English release. It tells the story of two brothers, one a cop and the other an aspiring songwriter, who find themselves mixed up in the student protests of the late 1960's in Japan that are being led by a Christ-like folk singer.

The manga that made Tezuka famous. It is an action-adventure drama inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's book. One day a boy named Pete finds a map of "Treasure Island" that his deceased father left behind. He starts on a voyage to find it together with "Captain," who was a friend of his father. But his ship is attacked by pirates, led by Bowarl, and the two are caught. When a storm hits the pirate ship, the two are thrown into the sea and washed up on the shore of a solitary island in the southern ocean. To their surprise, this island is the one they have been looking for.... The Western-style art and fast-paced storyline attracted much attention, and it became a best seller with 400,000 copies sold, laying the groundwork for the manga craze and its modern style. The original version of "New Treasure Island" was based on Tezuka Osamu's manuscript, but substantial modifications were made by Sasaki Shichima, who cut nearly 60 pages and also changed some of the lines. When publishing "The Complete Works of Tezuka Osamu," Tezuka Osamu remade it based on his memory to make it closer to his original. Was adapted into animation.

Long, long ago, humans lived almost the same as beasts... If you got hungry, you could just find something to kill and eat it. If someone attacked you, kill them too. Everything was kill to survive, kill to survive. Then people started acting smart and making laws. The laws kept them from doing pretty much everything they wanted to do. Beasts, on the other hand, still have no laws, or etiquette. I predict the day will come when an almost mutant breed of humans will appear, sinking to the level of beasts for freedom... Here, I will call them "Vampires..."

Vampires marked an especially important stage in the progess of Rock Holmes, one of Tezuka’s longest-running characters, who appeared here for the first time in a charismatic villain role as Makube Rokuro. Vampires is certainly not as mature a work as some of Tezuka’s later social commentaries, but a story of the fight for the right to do evil is certainly a far cry from Astro Boy’s quest to bring about friendship between humans and robots.

This tiger, Dan, has escaped from a train that was carrying him to a zoo. Together, they discover mysterious ruins hidden underneath the ground.Within the ruins, Kotan and Dan discover an old man named Upopo living there. He tells the boy and the tiger about three keys to a fantastic treasure. As it so happens, the evil Sekkoku Kou is also searching for the treasure and shoots Upopo. Before he dies, Upopo gives one of the keys to Kotan.Now, Kotan and Dan find themselves involved in an ugly battle as numerous villains track them down to try to get the three keys so they can claim the treasure.
