The story takes place in a fictional world full of monsters and adventurers called Monster Hunters, who, as their name implies, hunts these monsters. The plot revolves around a young Monster Hunter, Shiki, whom was taken in as an apprentice to a Monster Hunter named Gurelli as a child. A few years after Gurelli's death, which was due to a gunpowder incident, he comes back to his master's residence, Akamaaya Town, to join the guild there. In that guild, he meets a girl called Irie and after a series of events, he finds that she is the daughter of his master. From this point onwards, they form a party to find the legendary Miogaruna, which was Gurelli's life-long ambition.

Trois ans plus tôt, le monde a appris l'existence d'autres espèces humanoïdes sur Terre et celles-ci ont été autorisées à s'intégrer dans la société humaine par l'entremise "d'échanges culturels". Kurusu Kimihito devient l'hôte d'un Lamia (femme-serpent) à la suite d'une erreur administrative, avec la tâche de prendre soin d'elle. Malheureusement, la jeune humanoïde tombe éperdument amoureuse de lui et tente de le séduire par tous les moyens. Il y a cependant un hic : la loi interdit formellement les relations charnelles inter-espèces, forçant Kurusu à repousser sans cesse ses avances (très dénudées).

Tout le monde dans une école secondaire est soudainement transporté dans un autre monde. Comme ils sont attaqués par des monstres, ils découvrent que certains élèves ont maintenant des superpouvoirs. Ils s'organisent en deux groupes. Ceux qui n'ont pas de pouvoirs s'appellent le groupe "Reste à la maison" et ceux qui sont avec eux s'appellent le groupe Exploration. Un jour où la plupart des membres du groupe Exploration sont à l'extérieur, les autres qui restent derrière commencent l'abattage et le viol du groupe "Reste à la maison".Ici, nous rencontrons notre protagoniste, un gars moyen sans capacités qui avait échappé de justesse à la mort aux mains de ses camarades de classe. Il se retrouve au loin dans une grotte au bord de la mort, épuisé et blessé lorsqu'un slime entre dans la grotte et commence à manger à sa main. Tout ce qu'il peut faire, c'est dire, "...s'il vous plaît...quelqu'un là-bas...aidez-moi..."
